evolve hero or craft gear?
I am trying fo figure out if it is better for me to evolve my heroes first or craft 5* gear first. Any help/opinions would be great thanks.

It really depends on what you have on you at the time. If you have very few 5* gear, than its generally better to seek them out asap to replace your 4* gear. Even leveling a 5* gear piece to about 30-35 is a big boost in power while only taking about 40+ pearls or a few maxed big pearls. also 5*gear is a long term investment. its something your gonna keep in the long run and also you want to be using your blacksmith on 5* gear only as soon as possible.
On the flipside you should be aware of various conditions before evolving your heroes:
-Is the hero your gonna evolve a long term hero? Such as evolving a brogar or pravil even though you know you will replace them as soon as you get another 5* hero to take their place.
-If your leveling and evolving 4* heroes, how close are you to getting more 5* heroes? sometimes its best to wait an extra day or two if you know you will have a 5* hero coming very soon before evolving that 4* hero.
-If your evolving 5* heroes, how close is that hero coming to his level cap? If I have a 5* hero who is level 82, but his cap is 90, I generally won't be rushed to want to spend the energy stones to continue to evolve him.
One of the most important things to realize when playing this game is that energy stones in particular are a very precious resource. you will be using them for practically everything. Sometimes its best to hold off on evolving a hero if you can then use those stones to make a few sun chests for a chance at getting more 5* gear.
These are just some general guidelines I follow and ask myself when deciding what to do with energy stones and when to evolve my own heroes. Feel free to ask more questions if you need more help.

It really depends on your preference I guess.. If you have the 5* Hero's you want then evolving them is important, but your Main hero (Jansen, Talia, Rhee) should always take priority. After that, I use a simple system.. Figure out their highest stats (Via using Wikia) and equip 5* gear to complement those stats for the time being until you eventually have full 5* gears. (Ex: Warrior is HP/Def.. so cloak/belt/boots/armor) Just the way I've done it anyways.
Hope this helps!

I've found that if crystals are the problem, look at how you are using your gold. Small changes will increase your crystal output. I used to have issues with 5* and 6* crystals, haven't had a problem since I made small tweaks

Any examples on what you tweaked?
Re: evolve hero or craft gear?
Mainly just how i spent gold, I quit buying frivilously, I actually bought over 20k star chests in the first day of the CNY event and that surprisingly made getting crystals alot easier. I also micromanage the amount of standing 1* crystals, and don't fuse any until I actually need to, or unless i have around 10 mil and then make around 30 of each 5* crystal to have to be ready.
Another thing is to make sure you use the alchemist lab properly and work your recruits alot, also making sure to collect from the castle. Uhh, basically everything i've mentioned is stuff most players normally do. Oh, and don't fortify frivolously, after level 60, it becomes more expensive than it is worth to use just standard level 1 monster chests. What many players do is use the lvl 1 chests to fortify king chests, the same can be done with big pearls. It takes a max of 6 monster chests to max out a king chest. Basically, from the math, you'll gain levels alot faster with king chests. Thus, speeding up your power acrument.

Re: evolve hero or craft gear?
I'm pretty much using the same system as ziggs, if a hero excels at something i make it better by giving it more of that stat via Runes/Gears. Now getting on to topic. i'd prefer to spend my resources making heroes stronger over a weapon/gear because a higher tier hero = stronger Crit atk. You can clearly see a difference between a L3 Crit skill and a L6 Crit skill: the damage is much higher.
As for what kazuki talked about, I agree that you should focus on a long term hero. Unless you plan on transfering the tier/level to another hero. Some 4* heroes arent bad but they're not long termed you WILL replace them. Hell even 5* heroes arent long termed, in the end 6* heroes is what will stay for good.
As for obtaining crystals i do things in batches.
phase 1 : buy star chests
phase 2 : craft all 1* energy stones
phase 3 : craft all 2* and etc.
so normally ill buy 4k ~ 6k star chests then ill craft all the energy stones, (approx 5k ~ 8k stones) i only craft 2* stones when i'm completely done with the 1* stones. i dont craft a portion of it at a time.
Right now in my inventory i have 4.4k 1*, 170 2*, 2 4* , 4 5* and 20 6* energy stones. trying to get more 1* before i start combining them.
and Koors is right putting a bunch of heroes into fortification when a hero level is too high is just a waste of gold. I've touched on the topic in a blogpost before heres a link : http://pocket-knights.wikia.com/wiki/User_blog:MrHasuu/Efficient_Hero_Leveling

Simplified Craft 5* wep mats then evolve heros. weps give you an instant boost. heros are long term boosts. if you dont have 5* plans evolve. simple. just prioritize. play the game. simple.
